Mount Gramoz, known simply as “Gramoz”, is one of the most prominent mountains in southeastern Albania and a major natural landmark on the Albania–Greece border. It is part of the Pindus mountain range and its highest peak reaches about 2,523 meters above sea level. Geographically, the mountain lies at the eastern edge of the Kolonjë municipality and connects Albania with the surrounding areas in Greece. The Osum and Devoll rivers originate from Mount Gramoz, indicating the hydrographic and ecological importance of the massif. The terrain of Gramoz is diverse, from hills and low valleys to high ridges, which offers rich biodiversity and spectacular landscapes. Most of the mountain is sparsely populated and quiet, while the nearest villages are often inhabited only during the summer. Historically, Gramoz Mountain has had both military and political significance, as it was a major area of operations during the Greek Civil War (1948–1949), leaving its mark on the landscape and collective memory. Today, Gramoz remains a destination valued for its nature, fresh air and opportunities for hiking, exploration, medicinal plant collection and mountain tourism. Gramoz Mountain constitutes one of the natural and cultural treasures of Kolonja, connecting land, water and history, and serves as a reference point for discovering the beauties of southeastern Albania.
